In October 2021, EVRAZ Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ ZSMK) awarded a contract to Primetals Technologies for an integrated quality control system for its steel mill and rolling mill in Novokuznetsk, Russia.

Cylindrical roller bearings mounted to a continuous casting machine were only lasting 1-2 months prior to failure at a major steelmaking plant in Europe. To remedy the situation, the facility invited NSK’s team of experts to review the application and operating conditions, a process that ultimately led to the adoption of NSK’s sealed spherical roller bearings. The result: annual savings of €14,850 in downtime and maintenance costs.

Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced today that it will build its new state-of-the-art sheet mill in Mason County, West Virginia. The West Virginia location on the Ohio River provides Nucor with important transportation and logistics advantages, and a strengthened ability to serve customers in the Midwest and Northeast, the two largest sheet consuming regions in the U.S. When fully operational, the new mill will employ approximately 800 full-time teammates.

Global technology company ABB has today launched its Tundish EMS solution to enable steelmakers to overcome the limited ability of the tundish vessel in controlling the flow of molten metal, and therefore steel quality and temperature.

With a shared ambition to reduce carbon emissions from iron and steelmaking, Metinvest, the international vertically integrated group of steel and mining companies ("Metinvest" or "the Group"), and SMS group and its subsidiary, Paul Wurth, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to meet this challenge head-on.
