Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that it has successfully demonstrated the technology that can reduce a significant amount of CO2 emissions from blast furnace operations, combining the technologies of Midrex¹ in the engineering business and the blast furnace operation technology in the iron and steel business. This achievement is a result of the integrated efforts of the Kobe Steel Group (also known as the KOBELCO Group) leveraging its diverse businesses. The demonstration test was conducted for a month at a large blast furnace (4,844 m3) of the Kakogawa Works in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in October 2020.

SMS group commissions new aluminium cold rolling mill at BaoWu Aluminium Technology in good time

SMS group supplied a state-of-the-art cold rolling mill for aluminium strips to the Chinese aluminium supplier BaoWu Aluminium Technology Ltd., which belongs to the BaoWu Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., the largest steel producer in China.

In November 2020, an EAF Quantum electric arc furnace and a ladle furnace supplied by Primetals Technologies went productive at a greenfield project of Wuzhou Yongda Special Steel Co., Ltd. (Wuzhou Yongda) in Wuzhou city, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Rio Tinto, Paul Wurth S.A. and SHS-Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA (SHS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the production of a low-carbon steel feedstock. In late December 2020, Italian steel producer Ferriera Valsabbia S.p.A. issued the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) to Primetals Technologies for the supply ERT-EBROS of endless rolling technology for the company's existing bar rolling mill in Odolo, Brescia province.
